The Art & Practice of Falconry in Ireland

Founded in 1860, the Irish Hawking Club is dedicated to safeguarding the art and practice of falconry in Ireland.

Falconry is the art of hunting quarry in its natural state by means of a trained raptor. It is inscribed both on Ireland’s State Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage and UNESCO’s International Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind.

Our members come from all backgrounds across the island of Ireland as well as overseas, all united in a common goal to preserve Irish falconry’s rich history, promote its highest ethical practices and conservation remit, and foster community engagement for future generations.

The Irish Hawking Club is a member of the (IAF), which is an advisory body to UNESCO and the IUCN, as well as the UK Hawk Board.

The Irish Hawking Club is dedicated to the art and practice of falconry and to the dissemination of knowledge of birds of prey.

Membership is open to those who support or practise this ancient art to the highest standards and traditions. If you would like to become either a practising or supporting member of the IHC, please go to the membership section.

If you are new to falconry, our beginners section will give you an idea of what to consider before getting started.
